Christchurch Police have released the name of the man who died in an industrial incident in Middleton this morning.

He was Anthony Stephen Wells, aged 47, of Christchurch, an employee of Busck Prestressed Concrete Ltd of Annex Road.

Detective Sergeant Chris Power says Mr Wells was working at the firm's premises at the time of the incident, which happened at approximately 5.40am today [Monday 25 February].

"Initial enquiries indicate that the deceased was struck by a forklift which was being driven by another employee, in a yard at the company's premises.

"The driver and other colleagues immediately called ambulance services and gave first aid. Mr Wells was pronounced dead at the scene by an attending paramedic."

Detective Sergeant Power says Police and health and safety inspectors from the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment are continuing investigations into the cause of the fatality.

A police scene examination at the site was completed this afternoon.
