No criminal action in Lower Hutt incident

1 min read

Wellington Police are satisfied that an incident took place in Lower Hutt last weekend with a young woman and men linked with the New Zealand Rugby League team.

Detective Senior Sergeant Paul Borrell, Wellington CIB, said some minor inquiries have yet to be completed but police are not pursuing any criminal action against anyone involved in the incident.

"The men involved, with the cooperation of New Zealand Rugby League, have identified themselves to police, and through rugby league management have given their account of the incident," Detective Senior Sergeant Borrell said.

"Police have conducted a range of inquiries including interviews with the young woman. We are satisfied that some consensual sexual activity took place. The young woman does not wish to pursue the matter further due to her own personal circumstances."

Police are unable to determine criminal culpability of other aspects of the incident without the assistance of the woman. Therefore it's no longer feasible to continue the investigation.
