Henderson Police Station - 20 Years of Operations

1 min read

The Henderson Police Station has reached a unique milestone in the history of policing in Waitakere, and this weekend local residents can celebrate its 20 year existence as an essential facility in West Auckland.

Saturday's Open Day for the public will provide a rare opportunity for everyone in the wider West Auckland region, to visit the cell blocks and to view a variety of sophisticated modern policing resources accessible to staff in the versatile police complex.

Police dogs and their handlers, Road Policing staff, the Marine Unit, Youth Education officers, Recruitment personnel, the Booze Bus, Vintage police vehicles and forensic specialists will be in attendance.

Event Organiser, Senior Sergeant Regan James, of the Henderson Police says, "It's been many years since local police invited the public to explore and experience the cell blocks at Henderson Station and to view police activity from within this strategically operational building."

"There's a programme of events on Saturday that will keep everyone fully entertained throughout the available four hour period," he said.

"In addition to police personnel, who'll be on hand to host all visitors, there'll be representatives from our partners such as Neighbourhood Support, Victim Support, and other community organisations. The general public will have access to valuable advice and information on a wide variety of policing issues," Mr. James said.

Saturday's Police Open Day commences at 10.00am and will continue until 2.00pm. The WCC is providing free parking access in the Alderman Drive car park. Police shuttle buses will transfer visitors to station for free.

The Henderson Police Station is located in Buscombe Avenue, Henderson. It was officially opened by former Police Minister Hon. Peter Tapsell on the 4 November 1987. Twenty years ago it was one of the best resourced and largest buildings then in use by police.
