Navy Greatly Assist Police Enquiry

1 min read

Waitemata Police on the North Shore say they are unable to discuss the alleged incidents involving Navy staff except to confirm the report in the NZ Herald this morning, and say that the Navy have greatly assisted the Police inquiry.

Both cases are now sub judice and it's important the Court process is not usurped.

These matters had come as a real shock to both Navy and Police given the very positive progress that has been made in the last two years with strategies to avoid young Naval staff getting themselves in trouble with the law and to reduce the risk of alcohol related harm.

Some of the strategies have been joint Navy/Police/community programmes and others have been work the Navy have done on their own. They've been a mix of education and enforcement and it's an ongoing programme of work.
