Operation Darlia - Jane's last home revisited by searchers

1 min read

Police Specialist Search Group, ESR forensic scientists and members of the Jane Furlong homicide investigation team are today embarking on another search of her last known address before she was reported missing by her boyfriend in May, 1993.

Detective Inspector Mark Benefield says information that's new to the investigation prompted the team to apply for a warrant to search the property - inside and out - at 51 Heretaunga Ave, Onehunga.

"It may take us several days to complete our search for any evidence that might assist the investigation into Jane's death.

"We're very encouraged by the fact that, even after Jane's disappearance and death 20 years ago and the eventual discovery of her skeletal remains at Port Waikato more than 12 months ago, the mystery of her death is still at the forefront of a number of people's minds and they're contacting us.

"People who were close to Jane want this matter resolved and we are determined to do that."

Anyone with information that might assist the investigation can contact Operation Darlia on 0800 675 263 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
