Eight Youths Arrested For Motat Arson

Avondale Police have arrested and charged eight youths in relation to the alleged arson of a 121 year old vintage railway carriage at Motat on Friday 29th of February 2008

The fire completely destroyed one half of the carriage and burnt out the over half leaving only the metal shell intact.

The arrests came as a result of investigations conducted by Police and Fire Safety Officers, and valuable information provided by members of the public who live near the scene of the fire.

Seven youths are aged 16 years, one other is 15 years. They have all been bailed to appear in the Auckland Youth Court on Thursday the 6th of March 2008. Police enquiries are continuing.
