Police Investigating Incident At Muriwai

Rodney Police are at Maori Bay, Muriwai, investigating an incident in which a body has been discovered in a burnt out motor vehicle.

Police say that at 7.00pm last night Monday 26 May 2008 volunteer firefighters from Muriwai and Kumeu went to a car park at the Bay after a report that a motor vehicle was on fire.

A body was discovered inside the vehicle and police were immediately called to the scene. A cordon will remain in place throughout the day.

The identity, gender, and age of the deceased body is not yet known.

Forensic personnel are en route to the scene to investigate the possible cause and circumstances of the incident. It will be several hours before these factors are all determined. Further comment may be made to media later today.
