Officer update

1 min read

The Waitakere Police Officer injured while on duty last night is expected to be in hospital for several weeks as she recovers from a broken pelvis and lower back injuries.

She will undergo surgery in the coming days to repair the breaks.

The man charged with driving with EBA in the Waitakere District Court was remanded on bail without plea until August 21. A more serious charge is likely to be laid then.

Relieving Area Commander Waitakere, Detective Inspector Mike Bush, injuries to staff while on duty is a major concern for the whole community, not just the for the colleagues who deal with the situation first hand.

"Police at every level - colleagues, bosses and Police Association members - feel for the victim at this time and have every faith that she will make a full recovery as she is a very positive person with a positive frame of mind," Mr Bush said.

"She is a highly valued member of staff who's been with us for a couple of years."
