Expect Travel Delays Say Police

1 min read

North Shore Police say tonight's closure of the southbound lane on the northern motorway will mean considerable travel delays for many motorists.

The lane will be closed from 8.00pm tonight Friday 3 October 2008, until about noon Saturday, so the Old Onewa Road over bridge can be demolished.

The structure of the bridge was seriously damaged this morning. The incident caused severe disruption to traffic on the motorway and on the North Shore.

Inspector Les Paterson North Shore Police Area Commander says engineers have declared the over bridge temporarily safe for traffic to pass underneath but it is imperative the bridge be demolished.

"Diversions will be in place throughout the duration of the demolition. Motorists should not travel unless it is necessary," Inspector Les Paterson said.
