Unidentified man dies after hit by train on Kapiti Coast

1 min read

Kapiti Police are appealing for public help in identifying the man who died after he was struck by a freight train near Raumati at 1am this morning.

The victim, a male Caucasian thought to be in his mid 20s, was seen walking along the tracks near the Raumati Road intersection about 1am. The drivers of the northbound train were unable to stop in time to avoid him. When they did manage to stop one of the crew ran back and found the man on the side of the track with head injuries.

Emergency services were called but the victim died at the scene.

Police have no idea who the man is or what he was doing walking on the tracks oblivious to impending danger.

The man had no wallet or any other identification papers.

He is thought to be in his 20s, 6ft tall, slim to medium build, with medium length brown curly hair and one to two weeks facial growth.

Police say he was wearing blue Diesel jeans, light grey Addidas footwear with three yellow stripes on the shoes, and a blue Sherpa jacket. Under this he had a black tracksuit top, a blue transformers t shirt and a yellow hawk t shirt.

People who saw the man on the tracks, or who know who he is, are asked to contact Kapiti Police Station at Paraparaumu and ask for the duty sergeant.
