At about 12:40 hours on Saturday 22 November 2008 Police stopped a truck and trailer on High Street, Southbridge. Following the truck and trailer was an 8 tonne JCB loader which was also stopped.

"Police were surprised to find the loader was being driven by an 11 year old boy," says Senior Sergeant Warren Newbury, South Island Manager, Commercial Vehicle Investigation Unit. "The boy was the son of the truck driver."

The owner, the father, has been charged with aiding and abetting an unlicensed driver.
