Stabbing Incident On The North Shore

A 47 year old Maori male is receiving emergency surgery in Auckland Hospital after being stabbed in his home in the North Shore suburb of Northcote.

Police say a forty year old female has been arrested and charged with Assault [Crimes Act]. She will be appearing in the North Shore District Court tomorrow morning. Further more serious charges are not being ruled out.

North Shore Police went to a residential address in Kaka Street, Northcote, at 6.30pm tonight Monday 22 December 2008. On arrival they found the man with a serious stab wound to his upper chest.

Urgent CPR was carried out at the scene by medics and a police officer. The victim was transported to Auckland Hospital by ambulance. His condition is described as critical.

Police say the exact circumstances of the incident are yet to be determined. The type of instrument used has not yet been identified or found.

Police are interviewing several witnesses who were inside the house at the time the stabbing took place. The address has been cordoned off and police will remain at the scene overnight. A further forensic examination of the house will be carried out tomorrow.

Police say they are not looking for anyone else in regard to this enquiry.
