Tomahawk robber strikes service station again

1 min read

A young man with a tomahawk concealed beneath his clothing has robbed the Caltex Service Station in Broadway, Miramar, for the second time this week.

Detective Sergeant John Van den Heuvel, Wellington CIB, said the brazen robber walked into the service station near Wellington Airport at 4.40am today, approached the counter, lifted his clothing to reveal the tomahawk and demanded money from the attendant.

He then left with a small sum of money.

Police believe he is the same man who on Wednesday morning, 14 January, held up Caltex Broadway and the Constable Street Shell Service Stations.

"The method is the same and descriptions are similar," Detective Sergeant Van den Heuvel said. "In all three robberies he has revealed a small tomahawk axe under his shirt."

Police are working to have a fresh CCTV image available later today in the hope that the public will recognise the offender. People who know who he is, who have any information about the robberies, including the latest one today, are asked to urgently contact Wellington CIB on 0800 TIPOFF.

Today's offender is described as dark skinned, 175 - 178cm tall, slight to medium build, and clean shaven. He wore a black beanie, a grey jacket or shirt and faded jeans.
