You can run but you'll just be caught tired is the message Hamilton Police have for a man who tried to evade them this afternoon.

Acting Sergeant Joe Pratt of the Hamilton Police said a large number of Police were already in the area searching for three escapers when colleagues visited a Pine Ave property.

"A stolen car had been seen at the rear of the property and an occupant at the address was taken away for interview. Returning to the home to locate a second person they instead found a third man," said Mr Pratt.

"As they were speaking to this man, who as it turned out gave officers false details, a very irate woman came up and berated Police for damaging her door, she inadvertently identified the man being spoken to as a wanted long term Hamilton burglar."

While this was going on the man pulled out a cellphone, unfortunately for him the woman recognised it as hers and began yelling again.

Realising the game was up the 24-year-old fled, pushing aside two large male staff members and making good his escape.

"That was until a female officer, probably one of our smallest officers, came on the scene and brought down the offender in a text book smothering tackle that just creamed the offender," said Mr Pratt.

"Perhaps if the Chiefs are looking for an impact player off the bench they should give her a call," he said.
