The last of three prisoners who escaped from a Police escort van in Hamilton last week was recaptured in Taupo yesterday.

Senior Sergeant Kent Holdsworth of Hamilton Police said Thomas 'Steely' TE RANGI, 19, was arrested by Taupo Police following reports of a burglary at a property in the town.

"Neighbours had reported someone suspicious at the home and when stopped by Taupo Police in Richmond Heights TE RANGI was found in a car with a stolen TV in it and taken into custody."

Aside from burglary charges TE RANGI has also been charged with escaping lawful custody.

Yesterday's arrest follows the recapture of Richard JOSEPH in Tokoroa on Friday and Darren SNOWDEN in Hamilton Saturday.

"Waikato Police are very appreciative of all the assistance provided by the public in relation to the recapture of these men," said Mr Holdsworth.

"We would ask that if people see any suspicious activity that they continue to ring Police so we can all contribute to safer communities together."
