Shooting in Hamilton

Hamilton Police investigating the shooting of a local man in the city today are appealing for information from the public.

The man was admitted to Waikato hospital today suffering from a single gunshot wound and is currently in a stable condition .

Detective Senior Sergeant Chris PAGE said the victim presented himself at Waikato Hospital this morning wounded in the shoulder.

"We understand the 51-year-old will undergo surgery later today, his injury was not considered life threatening and he is currently listed as being in a stable condition."

The shooting is believed to have happened outside the victim's Duke St address shortly after 7.00 am.

"At this stage the investigation is in its infancy and there are still a number of matters to clarify, it's too soon to speculate on the cause or reason behind the shooting."

Mr Page said today's incident did not appear related to any other incidents in the City or elsewhere over recent days.

Police are appealing for anyone with information or who was in the area of Duke St about 7.00 am today and observed suspicious activity to contact the Hamilton Police Station on 07 8586200.
