Wellington Police would like to identify a couple who helped an intoxicated man back to his hotel room as part of their inquiries on behalf of the coroner into the man's death.
Detective Sergeant John Van den Heuvel, Wellington CIB, said the good samaritans were some of the last people to see Mr Craig Wilson, 44, alive. It's believed Mr Wilson, an unemployed man who lived in a room at the Lodge in the City boarding establishment in Taranaki Street, Wellington, died some time on Friday, 6 February, after a possible fall.
Mr Wilson did not keep good health, and his body was found by concerned hotel management on Monday, 9 February.
Detective Sergeant Van den Heuvel said police need to trace Mr Wilson's movements in the days leading up to his death as part of their file for the coroner. CCTV footage shows that a concerned man and woman assisted him into the hotel and up to his room about 8pm on the Thursday evening.
Police are hopeful that this couple, who may be local Wellingtonians or they could have been visitors to the city for the weekend of the rugby Sevens, can tell police just where they found Mr Wilson.
"They were obviously concerned about him and have helped Mr Wilson into his address. It would be good to know just where they found him as he was very intoxicated."
