Body found in Ngaruawahia

A CORDON HAS BEEN ESTABLISHED AND INVESTIGATORS HAVE COMMENCED WORK FOLLOWING THE DISCOVERY OF A BODY ON A NGARUAWAHIA STREET THIS MORNING.

DETECTIVE SERGEANT MATA JOHN OF THE NGARUAWAHIA CIB SAID THE MAN'S BODY WAS SPOTTED ON HERSCHEL ST EALY THIS MORNING.

"A PASSING MOTORIST HAS SEEN THE BODY LYING ON THE ROAD AND HAS NOTIFIED EMERGENCY SERVICES. ON THEIR ARRIVAL IT WAS ESTABLISHED THE MAN WAS DEAD," SHE SAID.

ONE OF THE FIRST THINGS INVESTIGATORS ARE WORKING ON IS TRYING TO ESTABLISH THE IDENTITY OF THE MAN, A MALE MAORI AGED BETWEEN 18-25.

"WE WANT TO HERE FROM ANYONE WHO HAS A FRIEND, RELATIVE OR ASSOCIATE UNACCOUNTED FOR THIS MORNING.

"OUR VICTIM HAD BLACK WAVVY HAIR AND WAS WEARING JEANS, A BLACK T-SHIRT, WHITE CAP AND TWO-TONE LACE UP BROWN CONVERSE BASKETBALL BOOTS."

MS JOHN SAID IT WAS TOO EARLY TO SAY WHAT THE CAUSE OF THE MAN'S DEATH WAS.

ANYONE WITH ANY INFORMATION ON THE MAN'S DEATH, HIS IDENTITY OR WHO SAW ANYTHING SUSPICIOUS IN THE AREA IS ASKED TO CONTACT THE HAMILTON CENTRAL POLICE STATION ON 07 8586200.

MEDIA ARE ASKED NOT TO CALL THE NGARUAWAHIA POLICE STATION, THE INQUIRY IS WORKING FROM OUTSIDE THAT LOCATION. FURTHER UPDATES WILL BE MADE LATER IN THE DAY.
