Man Charged In West Auckland Stabbing

A 31 year old unemployed male has appeared in the Waitakere District Court charged with assault [Crimes Act 1961], after a stabbing incident in the West Auckland suburb of Massey earlier today. The man has been remanded in custody, and without plea. Police say further charges are not being ruled out.

Police went to a residential address in Holmes Drive, Massey at about midnight, where they found a 20 year old man with serious stomach wounds after twice being stabbed with a knife. The injuries were received in an altercation with another male. The medical status of the victim is unchanged.

The injured man is in Auckland Hospital. His condition is described as critical.

Police urge anyone with information about the stabbing to contact the Henderson CIB immediately on 09 839 0600. Police enquiries are continuing.

The alleged offender's next appearance in Court is on Thursday 9 April 2009.
