The case of a missing Feilding man is set to feature on the TV crime show Ten-7 this week (Thursday, July 2).
Bevan Wright, a 43-year-old Maori, was last seen on 9 January last year when he finished his shift as a sheep shearer and was dropped off by his employer at the home in Feilding that he shared with his sister.
With his car and phone still at the house and no activity on his bank account his disappearance quickly became suspicious. Although he was known to move around from time to time, he was the father-of-two and it was completely out of character for him not to keep in contact with his family.
A long-running investigation was launched which included detailed searches of the town's riverbank near the Aorangi Bridge. Although Mr Wright is presumed dead his body has never been found.
Mr Wright was originally from Pahiatua and his mother Gwen Power, who has been interviewed as part of the Ten-7 programme, has repeatedly expressed her emptiness at not knowing what has happened to her son.
Detective Inspector Chris Bensemann who led the investigation: "The disappearance of Bevan Wright remains a mystery. We believe that he is dead as a result of something untoward and that someone out there holds the key which will assist the family with the answers that they need.
"The investigation has always remained ongoing and is regularly reviewed to try to identify other avenues we might take. We are hoping that featuring the case on Ten-7 will bring it back to the fore and that those who have information will take the opportunity to come forward.
We won't stand in judgement on someone for not coming forward before now, and it doesn't matter how irrelevant they think their information is. Even the smallest piece of information might be all that is needed to point us in the right direction and finally help Mr Wright's family to put him to rest."
