A small plane went missing off the radar as it approached Christchurch Airport this evening around 7.20pm, there were some initial difficulties locating the plane after a number or reports over a vast area of north Canterbury.
Searchers have located the wreckage of an aircraft off Greywacke Road, near Johns Rd, just north/east of the airport. It is believed to be the wreckage sought.
Officers, ambulance and fire are at the scene.
At this stage there is no confirmation of the state of those on board.
