Aggravated Robbery Edgecumbe

Eastern Bay of Plenty Police are investigating the aggravated robbery of the Edgecumbe Plains Hotel shortly before midnight on Wednesday the 10th of February 2016. As staff at the hotel, situated on College Road, were preparing to close, a male offender entered the hotel armed with a sawn off shotgun threatening the two staff and two remaining patrons. The offender has run off with a quantity of cash and is described by victims as being a male Maori medium height and athletic build who had covered his face with a hoodie and sunglasses. The offender fled in a light coloured 4 x 4 vehicle along College Road towards Main Street EDGECUMBE. Whilst the victims were not physically harmed the incident has left them shaken and victim support have been enlisted to offer support. The light coloured 4 x 4 vehicle was seen acting suspiciously around the Edgecumbe CBD around 11.30 p.m. prior to the robbery and Police are seeking any information regarding this vehicle from persons that may have seen it. Police are also keen to speak to anyone that was in the College Road and Main Street of Edgecumbe between 11.00 p.m. and 12.00 am on the 10th of February 2016. At this stage there are no apparent links with the robbery of security guards in Kopeopeo on the 27th of January 2016.
