Arrest follows Te Awamutu bank robbery

A senior Waikato crime investigator says the arrest of a man following Wednesday’s armed robbery of a Te Awamutu bank was a result of some good old investigative skills and a lot of teamwork.   Investigations Manager for the Western Waikato, Detective Senior Sergeant Mike Whitehead, said a 42-year-old Hamilton man was arrested in relation to the incident on Friday afternoon.   “Detectives had been following up solid lines of inquiry following last week’s aggravated robbery of the Te Awamutu ASB bank in addition to information provided by the public following media coverage. This enquiry has highlighted the value of businesses having good quality CCTV systems.   “As a result of those inquiries we identified a man as a person of interest. Close co-ordination between City, Rural and Road Policing staff allowed for a cordon to be established in the north of Hamilton and he was arrested in Pukete a short time later.”   Held in custody over the weekend, the man will appear in the Hamilton District Court today on a charge of aggravated robbery.   End
