Waitemata Police have arrested a person following an investigation into three bank robberies in West Auckland in the past month.

In each incident, a lone offender entered the bank, handed the teller a note indicating they were in possession of a weapon and demanded money from the teller, before fleeing with a sum of cash.

The incidents took place at the Kiwibank, Glen Eden on 22nd of June, ANZ bank in West City Mall on July 1st and the BNZ in Henderson on 13th July.

A 29-year-old male will be appearing in the Waitakere District Court today on three aggravated robbery charges.

Detective Senior Sergeant Roger Small says the arrest came as a result of information received from a member of the public following appeals made through the media.

Police have also carried out a search warrant at a West Auckland address and have seized several thousand dollars in cash, a BMW vehicle and an imitation firearm.

“These incidents were particularly distressing for staff involved and we hope this arrest will provide some reassurance to the community, as well as demonstrate our commitment to finding those allegedly responsible for serious crimes and hold them to account,” says Detective Senior Sergeant Small.
