Arrest made in Hamilton suspicious package incident

1 min read

Hamilton Police say the overnight arrest of a man in relation to yesterday’s suspicious package left in a toilet block of a City park was the result of not only good Police work, but the combined efforts of several agencies.

City Area Commander, Inspector John Kelly, said as a result of progress made on the ongoing investigation an arrest was made overnight.

“A 27-year-old Ngaruawahia man has been charged with threatening to harm people or property and will appear in the Hamilton District Court later today.

“While we are pleased to have progressed this matter to this point the investigation is still continuing and we are encouraging anyone with information who hasn’t yet spoken to our investigators to contact Hamilton Police on 07 8586200.”

Mr Kelly said the overnight arrest was testament to the large amount of work carried out by a raft of agencies in responding and managing a series of hoax events.

“A lot of work goes on behind the scenes in such situations with the various agencies all working to keep the public safe.”
