Baby dies following Waimea Road crash

The baby who was born following a serious crash on Waimea Road, Nelson, on April 30th has died in Wellington Hospital on Saturday 5 May.

The baby was born via emergency C-section in Nelson Hospital following the crash and shortly after was flown to Wellington Hospital in a critical condition.

Police extend our sympathies to those affected by the death.

We are continuing to investigate the crash which occurred at around 6:20pm.

A 47-year-old man has been charged with careless driving causing injury. He will appear in Nelson District Court on Tuesday.

Further charges are possible as the investigation progresses.

Police still want to speak with anyone who was in the area at the time and saw the crash.
