Crash after Pursuit in Wellington

At 11.33pm, on Saturday 4th November 2015, a Police patrol went to stop a motor vehicle on Onepu Road, Lyall Bay, Wellington.

The driver failed to stop, increasing his speed, but within 39 seconds of the request to stop the driver collided with a lamp-post.

The driver of the vehicle ran from the car, but was apprehended by Police nearby.

There was one passenger in the vehicle and there were no injuries.

The 19 year old driver was brought back to the Wellington Central Police Station and faces the following charges:

1.    Dangerous Driving

2.    Failing to stop

3.    Disqualified Driving

The driver underwent drink driving procedure and elected for a blood test and Police are awaiting the results of the blood test to determine if any drink driving charges will be laid.
