Deceased baby found in Mangere Bridge

1 min read

Please attribute to Detective Senior Sergeant Karen Bright:

Around 8.30am this morning a member of the public was walking through a reserve on Mona Avenue, Mangere Bridge when they have discovered the body of a baby.

Police are yet to confirm any details but the deceased baby is believed to be very young, possibly a newborn.

We have serious concerns for the well-being of the baby’s mother and our initial focus will be on identifying who she is.

Police ask anyone who has any information that can assist us with our enquiries to call us immediately. They can be assured that anyone who wishes to speak with us can do so in confidence and we would reiterate that our main concern as this stage is the welfare of the mother.

The scene has been cordoned for a forensic examination to be carried out, this is expected to take some time.

We will provide another update later today once further enquiries have been carried out.

Anyone who wishes to speak with police can call Counties Manukau Crime Squad on 09 261 1321 or alternatively, you can contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
