Distinctive hoody could hold clue to unsolved aggravated robbery

1 min read

Waitakere Police investigating an unsolved aggravated robbery at a Te Atatu bar are releasing CCTV footage showing the two offenders, one of whom wore a distinctive hoody that zipped up through the face.

Detectives from the CIB have been working on the case since Thursday 27 October. Officers have followed a number of lines of enquiry over this time, but the case remains unsolved and it’s hoped that the distinctive hoody worn by one of the men may provide further lines of enquiry.

Just after 11pm as the staff were closing for the evening, the two men burst into the backroom. One of the offenders held a shotgun. As the video shows, they threatened the worker and demanded money. (Footage up now on Waitemata Police Facebook page)

“This was a very frightening situation for the staff. As the video shows, one of the men is wearing a hoody that can actually zip right up through the face part, so that the entire face is masked. These hoodies were popular a few years ago, this one is quite distinctive by the logos it has and the seam that runs right up to the top of it. I think anyone who sees the footage will agree it’s very creepy” says Detective Sergeant Mike Clubb, Waitakere Police.

The men both fled with a sum of money. Police units including dog handlers attended, but the men were not located.

“We’ve made numerous enquiries since that time and for various investigative reasons, we haven’t released this footage until now. If you have a mate that has a hoody like this, and fits the build of this man, then we need to hear from you” he says.
