Police are advising people in the Bay of Plenty district to avoid road travel if possible due to slips and flooding in the area caused by heavy rain.
Eastern and Western Bay of Plenty are the most affected areas particularly around Matata. SH2 between Matata and Paengaroa is closed and diversions are in place.
If people are driving Police advice is to reduce speed and increase following distances. Drivers also need to be aware that heavy flooding can occur quite suddenly so please drive to the conditions.
