New Plymouth Police can now release the name of the man, who drowned after being thrown from a boat on the Waitara Bar yesterday (30 July, 2015).
Erka Xu, aged 52, was a Chinese national who had been residing in Hamilton for some time. He had been visiting friends in the New Plymouth area.
New Plymouth Police would like to extend their condolences to Mr Xu's family.
The death has been referred to the coroner.
