Dunedin Police wish to remind drivers to drive safely following a traffic operation which focussed on speed on the Caversham Bypass Motorway.
The operation took place on Saturday night between the hours of 11.30pm and 1.30am.
Police were generally happy with driver behaviour however in the space of two hours, six drivers were stopped and ticketed.
Enforcement of speed and driving to the conditions is a crucial part of reducing death and serious injuries on our roads.
Police have also noted an increased prevalence of drivers with cell phones on their laps.
“It is obvious when people are constantly looking down and taking their eyes off the road,” says Senior Sergeant Jared Kirk.
“These drivers can expect to be stopped because distracted drivers place themselves and other road users at increased risk of harm.
“We need to work together, so please take responsibility for your driving and reduce the risk to yourselves and others.”
The message to all road users is clear: Don’t drive distracted, stay within your own lane, buckle up, watch your speed, and never drive under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
