To be attributed to Detective Sarah Williams:

An 87-year-old man is recuperating at home from injuries he received after being subjected to an aggravated robbery on Saturday afternoon (28 July 2018) at Countdown supermarket in Hastings.

Around 3:55pm he was approached in the Countdown car park, on the corner of Queen Street West and King Street North, by a number of offenders who forced him into the backseat of his car.

He was driven around Hastings where the offenders withdrew money from his account at several locations.

Police are looking for a man and a woman in relation to this incident. These people were reported to be driving what is described as a faded-black car when they initially approached the victim.

The female is described as Maori, approximately 50-years-old with straight, black, shoulder-length hair.

The male is described as a young man.

This was a brazen and cowardly attack on an elderly man in broad daylight. Police would like to speak to anyone who has information or may have seen the victim’s car (pictured) being driven around Hastings between 3.55pm and 4.30pm on Saturday afternoon.
