Family of Mt Aspiring climber request privacy

The family of the Australian climber rescued on Mt Aspiring are asking the media for privacy while he recuperates in hospital.

Mr Harch was located on Thursday evening after activating the distress function on his SPOT tracking device on Tuesday.

The Search and Rescue (SAR) response was coordinated by Rescue Coordination Centre New Zealand (RCC).

He was evacuated by helicopter on Friday after spending a few nights on the mountain.
