A serious crash has closed State Highway 5 at Ohaaki, between Taupo and Reporoa.
The crash occurred at approximately 4.50pm and involved a collision between a bus and a car. There are an estimated 50 to 60 passengers on the bus and no reported injuries at this stage in relation to the bus passengers.
One person in the car has been confirmed as deceased, and it is believed that other occupants of the car have suffered injuries. The number of occupants and extent of the injuries are still to be confirmed.
Diversions are in place with southbound traffic being diverted via Ohaaki Road and Broadlands Road and northbound traffic being diverted via Te Toki Road.
