Fraud accused in court; other victims urged to come forward

1 min read

Joshua Johnston has pleaded guilty in the Wellington District Court to three charges of obtaining by deception following a Police investigation.

He fraudulently obtained about $3 million and Police want to hear from anyone else who might have become a victim of his or who believes they are owed money by him.

Money was obtained through victims being asked to invest in audio-visual contract and leasing work in Waikato, with the prospect of dividends.

“There should be no shame in any victim of financial crime coming forward,” says Detective Daryl Gera.

“People who commit such offences can be cunning, crafty and determined to take people’s money.

“If you have been affected by this particular fraud, we would like to hear from you,” says Detective Gera.

Johnston is due to be sentenced on 31 August 2018.
