Counties Manukau Police staff conducting a routine traffic checkpoint came across more than expected last night.
Checks done on one vehicle that stopped at the checkpoint revealed that an occupant was breaching bail and he was arrested. During the arrest a small bag was found, prompting attending officers to search the vehicle.
“When the vehicle was searched, a large quantity of cash and methamphetamine was located,” says Inspector Julia Lynch, Counties Manukau Police Central Area Commander. “Also found was a bag which contained a shotgun and ammunition.”
The driver was also arrested and both have been charged with various drug and weapons offences.
The drugs had an estimated street value of between $4,000 and $6,000. The cash that was found was around $16,000.
“It was teamwork that lead to this good catch,” says Inspector Lynch. “Our Road Policing Team, Public Safety Team, Tactical Crime Unit and Clendon Neighbourhood Policing Team all worked together to ensure that these two offenders will face appropriate charges without delay.”
