Hamilton Police arrest man following firearms injury

Hamilton Police have arrested a man following a firearms incident earlier this morning, Saturday 3 December 2016.

At approximately 03:45am today, Police were called to an incident where a woman has received moderate injuries as a result of a gunshot wound.

Detective Senior Sergeant Nigel Keall says any incident involving a firearm is of concern to Police:

“We take the unlawful possession of any firearm seriously. We are thankful that this incident did not result in much more serious injuries.”  

A 31-year-old man will appear in the Hamilton District Court this morning, charged with unlawful possession of a pistol and wounding.

Mr Keall says the victim and the alleged offender are known to each other.

“We wish to remind members of the public that if you suspect family harm is occurring in a neighbour, friend or loved one’s home, please ask the potential victims if they need help.

“If you’re not in a position to do this, contact Police straight away.”
