Hamilton Police seek information

1 min read

Police investigating the sexual violation of a 20 year old woman in Hamilton over the weekend are asking for the public’s help to identify other potential incidents involving the alleged offender.

The woman was waiting for a taxi on Grey Street, Hamilton East, in the early hours of Sunday 10 January, when a car stopped and the driver offered her a ride.  The woman got into the vehicle and was driven to the northern suburbs of Hamilton, where she was assaulted by the driver.

Hamilton Police have arrested and charged a 23 year old Hamilton man with abduction and sexual violation.  He appeared in Hamilton District Court today and was remanded on bail.

Detective Sergeant Andrew Mortimore of the Hamilton CIB believes there could be other incidents of a similar nature that have occurred within the greater Hamilton City area, which have not been reported to Police.

“We’d like to hear from anyone who has had a similar experience, or who has been offered a ride – whether they declined or accepted that offer – as we believe they may have important information that can assist this investigation.”

Information can be provided directly to Hamilton Police by calling 07 858 6200 or anonymously via Crime Stoppers on 0800 555 111.
