Highbury, Palmerston North incident

Palmerston North Police are investigating an incident that occurred in Highbury, Palmerston North yesterday evening, Tuesday 29 August.

Police were called to reports of shots fired on Ronberg Street at 5.14pm.

A 28-year-old local man was admitted to Palmerston North hospital with what is believed to be three gunshot wounds to his stomach.

The man has since undergone surgery and his injuries are not believed to be life threatening.

We would like to assure the community of Highbury that we do not believe there is any immediate risk to the public, the parties are known to each other,  and we are following positive lines of enquiry.

Police have spoken to a number of witnesses, but are continuing to appeal for information from the public to assist with their investigation .
