Police have released the name of the man killed on the Old Woman Range, near Cromwell, Central Otago.

He has been named as Gary John TALL, a 61 year old Cromwell man, who had been hunting with a companion during the evening of the 3rd of March.

Police are investigating the shooting which is not believed to be suspicious.  Initial indications are that the deceased was alone and that his weapon discharged accidentally, striking him in the abdomen area.

The family of the deceased and his hunting companion have been referred to Victim Support and Police are in the process of organising a Karakia to take place once the scene has been examined.
