Hutt Valley Police launch homicide investigation after shooting in Jackson Street

1 min read

Hutt Valley Police have launched a homicide investigation after gun shots were heard at 10.30pm last night and the body of a 25-year-old male was found at the Jackson Street flats in Lower Hutt.

Police and ambulance staff attempted to resuscitate the man but their attempts were unsuccessful and Police are in the process of notifying his family.

A 18-year-old man is in custody and has been charged with unlawful possession of a firearm and burglary.

A 43-year-old man is also in custody after he called for the assistance of ambulance and he is currently in hospital with serious knife wounds. Once he is cleared by medical staff he will be interviewed by Police.

Police are conducting a scene examination at the Jackson Street property this morning and will be brining specialist ESR forensic equipment from Auckland today to map the scene.

Detective Senior Sergeant Dave Thornton says "Police would like to speak to anyone who saw or heard anything in the Jackson Street area around 10.30pm last night.

"We are also interested in hearing from anyone that saw a red 1994 Nissan Lucino, registration GKU810, which has travelled from the Hutt Valley to Newlands.

"Police have recovered the vehicle and one of the tires is down to the rim so it is likely people would have seen it sparking on the road".

Anyone with any information should contact Hutt Valley Police on (04) 560 2600 or speak to Police staff who are making inquiries in the Jackson Street area.

Anonymous information can be provided to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
