Investigation continues into Rakaia death – UPDATE 2

1 min read

Attribute to Detective Inspector Darryl Sweeney, Canterbury CIB:

Police continue their homicide investigation into the death of a woman who was found on the side of Main Rakaia Road, approximately 500m from State Highway 1.

Staff, including forensic experts, remain in the area today as they continue a detailed scene examination. While this examination continues, the road will remain closed.

Police staff have worked through the night as we work towards piecing together exactly what has happened.

The post-mortem of the woman is scheduled to take place this morning. Police are also working to complete a formal identification of the victim.

Police are grateful of the Rakaia community’s patience and assistance as police go about their investigation. We appreciate the closing of the Main Rakaia Road has caused some disruption, but would like to thank them for their understanding during this time.
