Investigations continue after man suffers gunshot wound

1 min read

Canterbury Police investigations are continuing into the events which resulted in two males taking another man with a gunshot wound to Christchurch Hospital on Sunday morning (5 April 2015).

Detective Senior Sergeant Jason Stewart says “Our inquiries have identified the two men who have gang connections.  To date they have been extremely reluctant to talk to Police about the incident.”

The 40 year old man remains in a stable condition in Christchurch hospital.  He has regained consciousness however it is likely to be another 2-3 days, at least, before Police will be able to speak with him about the incident.  The victim’s family have asked for privacy and do not want any further updates on the man’s medical condition to be released at this time.

Detective Senior Sergeant Stewart explained “The Police investigation into this incident is continuing and I would like to take the opportunity to repeat my request for any members of the public who may have seen the green/blue Subaru station wagon or have any information about the incident contact Police”

To date the weapon used to injure the victim has not been recovered.

“With a gang related incident such as this there is potential for an escalation.  However we would like to reassure the public that Canterbury Police officers directly involved in the investigation and other prevention staff are focussing their efforts to prevent further incidents” said Detective Senior Sergeant Stewart.

Anyone who remembers seeing the green/blue Subaru or has any information that could assist Police with their inquiries is asked to call 03 363 7400.

Information can also be provided anonymously by calling Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
