Investigations continue into Tuesday’s fatal crash

Canterbury Police and the Serious Crash Unit are continuing their investigation into the cause of yesterday’s (14 October 2014) fatal crash.

Two cars have collided head-on while negotiating an easy corner on SH1 near Orari, which was closed for approximately 4 hours following the crash.  The driver of one of the vehicles was deceased at the scene and his passenger is understood to have suffered minor bruising.  The passenger in the other vehicle is reported to have sustained serious injuries including a possible fractured hip, while the driver of that vehicle suffered minor bruising.

The death has been referred to the Coroner.

Police are currently working to ensure that next of kin are fully informed and will not release any details of the deceased man until this process has been completed.
