Statement to be attributed to Inspector Mark Fergus, Waitemata Police

The search for the remaining missing person from the capsized “Francie” has continued today, with an ongoing search via land and air.

Police 4-WD vehicles are searching the shoreline between Muriwai and South Head. Items that are thought to have washed ashore from the “Francie” have been retrieved as part of the ongoing investigation into the circumstances.

The Police Eagle Helicopter is also carrying out aerial searches. The area is large and covers many kilometres.

The vessel “Francie” hasn’t been found and we are considering all options that could assist with our search for it, in consultation with specialist maritime police staff.

“We are in regular contact with the family of the missing man. They are coping as well as can be expected but are understandably wanting to get their loved one home” says Inspector Fergus.

Police family liaison officers continue to work closely with the family and friends of those who have died, as well as the survivors. At this stage it is anticipated that the names of the victims will be released later today. Several families have also provided Police with photos of their loved ones and they will be released at the same time.
