A 50-year-old man will be appearing in the Kaitaia District Court today charged with murder following the death of a 29-year-old man on Saturday night.
The 29-year-old man was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at the Kaitaia Hospital at about 10.30 pm.
Kaitaia police have a team of 17 police staff working on the homicide inquiry. The death of the man followed an incident that occurred on Fairburn Road.
Police are carrying out a number of scene examinations today, including a roadside scene and the victim's vehicle, which was recovered nearby.
Police have released the name of the deceased. He was Joseph Rowland Keogh of Kaitaia.
