1 min read

Police are currently at the scene of an accident in Morningside, Auckland where a vehicle has been hit by a train.

We were called to the scene at the Morningside Drive level crossing at around 4.20pm.

The sole female occupant is still trapped in the vehicle and is in a serious condition.

Fire Service and St John are also at the scene.

The very early information from the scene is that the barrier arm was down and the lights were flashing when the vehicle has driven through.

All trains have been stopped and road closures are being put in place.

The crossing is near the intersection of Morningside Drive and New North Road.

Diversions will be put in place and motorists are asked to avoid the area.

The serious crash unit is in attendance.

A further update will be provided later this evening.
