Male has drowned at Peka Peka Beach, Kapiti coast

A 74 year old Lower Hutt man has drowned after getting in difficulties while swimming with his 51 year old daughter off Peka Peka Beach today.

Just before 6pm tonight, the male and female got in to difficulties while swimming.  The female has managed to swim to shore and has since been taken to Wellington Hospital in a serious condition.  The male was been unable to get ashore and disappeared from view.  

About 20 minutes later, a member of the public located the male in the water just off the beach and pulled him ashore.  They have been unable to revive him and was pronounced deceased by Ambulance staff at the scene.

The death will be reported to the Coroner.  The details of the deceased will not be released until the next of kin have been advised.
