Man charged over serious assault on Courtenay Place.

A man has been charged over an incident that left another man requiring surgery to repair his broken jaw in central Wellington.

 

The man, a 19-year-old local student, was seriously injured in an assault outside Readings Cinema, Courtenay Place, on 8th November 2015.

 

The victim was walking with a friend when he was knocked to the ground and assaulted further. He required surgery and the installation of a metal plate to repair the damage to his jaw.

 

On Friday 22nd January 2016 Police arrested and charged a 19-year-old male with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

 

He was remanded in custody and appeared in the Wellington District Court on Tuesday.

 

Constable Oliver CRELLIN of the Wellington Criminal Investigation Branch says, “This was an unprovoked and violent attack on a member of the public enjoying the Wellington nightlife. Police would like to thank the assistance provided by the public in enabling the identification of those involved.
